Maidstone Cricket and Rugby Clubs
Thursday 13 July 2006
A joint bid with Simon Wright Homes and Prime Building Consultants as Architects, a scheme has been designed to release a small area of land for housing to pay for a new £3.5 million shared pavilion and clubhouse, along with pitch and ground improvements
With the growth in number of the cricket and rugby teams the current clubhouse has become grossly undersized for its current membership. With up to seven games being played on Saturday, the lack of changing rooms and modernisation required to bring county cricket back to Maidstone and reflect he success of the rugby teams necessitates re-development.
It was therefore proposed to provide new modern premises for the cricket and rubgy club, in a new location, so that the existing clubhouse can continue to support the teams whilst the new building is being constructed.
To fund the new clubhouse it is proposed to see a small part of the existing ground for housing in order provide funds to implement the new clubhouse and undertake various ground improvements.
The new clubhouse is to be situated on an embankment between the existing first team cricket and rugby pitches.
The new clubhouse will provide modern changing rooms with integral showers and toilets, a treatment / physiotherapy room plus separate referee facilities. There is also a gymnasium for general use and inclement weather fitness.
There will be a new function room for 200 people with a separate bar for general use, whilst the function room is in use. For spectators, there will be seating for up to 600 people for county cricket matches and sheltered stepped terracing overlooking the first team rugby pitch. With corporate entertaining facilities, an elevated directors/sponsorship box overlooking the cricket pitch, the modern facilities provided are essential.
The proposed location eans that no adjustment to the first team rugby and cricket pitches are required and a separate entrance onto Willow Way for the housing will not compromise the entrance and exit to the current grounds.
